Empire Tavern

One of the important part of travel is time. You want to make sure you get to the airport on time so that you can make it to your flight on time. That is, if your flight don’t get delayed…let’s hope that does not happen too often. With that, it is always a plus when you have a quick and easy way to order food at the airport. When I was traveling out of LaGuardia airport, the quickest way to get food around my gate was Empire Tavern. It is located in Terminal C, around gate C20.

They have plenty of seating, taking up pretty good amount of space here. They have low and high table seating, counter seating, and easy to accommodate single traveler or group travelers. Each seat comes with an iPad bolted down on the table. You can check the news, your flight status, play game, and so much more. But, the most important thing is the Empire Tavern app for ordering their food and drinks. It is pretty simple and easy to do, and it needs to be that way since no one came to talk to me until my order was in. Once the order was processed, a staff came and gave me a silverware and a glass of water.

The menu was kind of pricey, since there is not much competition around here. I chose Corn Beef Hash ($16.50), which comes with diced potatoes, red bell peppers, yellow onions, and two over east eggs. It took a while for the food to arrive, even thought it didn’t look that busy at all. It looked much better on their photo, which was expected… The photo showed that it comes in a mini iron skillet, but it came on a regular plate.

It was a pretty good size, generous amount of thick corn beef. The potatoes were ok, a bit crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. It had red and green bell peppers, chopped up pretty small. Overall, it lacked flavor so the ketchup that came with was necessary…

The egg was more like Sunny Side Up, which I didn’t mind. it gave me a bit of egg porn. I don’t think it had much seasoning, I think this dish could have been so much better… A good potential but it didn’t achieve it. It was not horrible, but it wasn’t great either.

The whole time I was eating, I didn’t see my waitress. It was a challenge to grab someone to get a refill of water. Even though no one came to check on me the ENTIRE time, the gratuity is pre-set to 18%. Interesting… Of course, you can change that to your liking at the time of check out. The payment is processed at the table through the iPad, and they have credit card swipe machine right there at the table.

It is not easy to find a good food at airport, but we do the best we can with limited offerings available to us. I wish if they can bring better vendors for us travelers… I will not give up on hopes for good food, and therefore, continue on with my search for delicious food at all airports I visits!
