Kumo Sushi

If you are a true sushi lover of quantities, then you should head over to Kumo Sushi at Upper West Side.  They offer All-You-Can-Eat Sushi special ($27.50 / person), and have plenty of sushi menu to select from.  Just a few blocks off the Central Park is this small sushi joint (seems to be operated by non-Japanese people) where you can get as much as you can stuff yourself with. Most sushi restaurant will offer a large plate of sushi or “chef’s special/selection” type of menu for around $20 plus, you can get much more quantity at this place for just a little bit more.  They look small from the outside, but has more than enough table seating at front and back, with counter seats at the sushi counter as well. They have many traditional sushi menu to hand rolls, specialty rolls, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes such as Donburi and Bento Box.

We ordered All-You-Can-Eat sushi special, which comes with your choice of soup or salad. They are just typical miso soup and salad you get at most other Asian restaurants, nothing special.

And then we started the sushi festivity. Beware that they do add 18% gratuity (or “service fee”) for this order automatically to your bill. Another thing to keep in mind: you are not allowed to take any leftover home, and whatever that is left, they will charge you extra for them! So do NOT order crazy amount of sushi at once, order little at a time so that you can be sure to finish them all.

So, we started to order from the All-You-Can-Eat menu, which was mixture of sushi, regular roll, hand roll, and specialty rolls. We picked few items at a time, and enjoyed each one as they came to our table.  The quality of sushi was surprisingly good (I must say I was not expecting high quality sushi for all-you-can-eat), fish was fresh and they tasted great. They had interesting specialty rolls which we didn’t get to try them all… But what we ordered, all of them were pretty good. For sushi, we had some salmon, tuna, white tuna, eel, squid, and yellow tail. Specialty rolls, we had Sweetheart Roll, Crazy Tuna Roll, Iron Chef Roll, and Yama Roll.  After all the sushi we consumed, we were stuffed, successfully finished every single piece, and happily full of sushi.

The staff here were polite and service was good. Our water and hot green tea was always full, had to ask for refill only once. So, even though they automatically add the 18% gratuity, they do provide good service so that you should feel it is all worth it.

The next time we want to get stuffed with Sushi again, we will definitely go back to Kumo for another All-You-Can-Eat sushi!
