Lantana

While I was visiting Palm Springs area in CA, I visited Lantana for breakfast. It is located inside the Hyatt Regency in Indian Wells, on their ground level.

They had a large indoor space and also a very nice outdoor seating. The indoor dining area was pretty big, enough to seat great number of people staying at the hotel. It is good for a rainy day or super crazy hot days. And even if it is a good weather day, some people still prefer to be in the air-conditioned room.

Since it was a nice weather, we decided to sit outside. It was nicely shaded and decorated beautifully. Very relaxing atmosphere, making you take a long, deep breath to take it all in. It seems like most of the customers were also taking advantage of the beautiful weather, sitting outdoor instead of the indoor dining area.

They also had really lovely lounge area right next to it, with a fire pit in the middle with waterfalls behind it. What a lovely setting! I can see chilling out with a cup of cappuccino out here after the meal… or maybe a cocktail or two in the evening.

Our server was Veronica, and she was super sweet and nice. I asked her which dish was her favorite, and she gave us pretty good suggestions. The breakfast menu offered nice amount of selections, from pancakes, omelets, benedict, and some “regional” items like tacos and huevos rancheros.

She first brought out some complimentary bread, which came in a black basket with butter on top. It had four pieces of toasted bread, cut in half. Since we are not a big eater in the morning, it was more than enough for the two of us.

The way it was toasted was just perfect too, not too toasted, so that it was still a bit soft, but had a good crunchy-ness to it. It also had very light amount of butter on it, which was nice. The block butter that came with the bread was a bit soft with the outside temperature, making it really easy to spread on the toast. I don’t like hard block of butter with toast, so this was nice.

We went with Buttermilk Pancakes ($16) and Smoked Salmon Egg White Fritatta ($16). Veronica asked if we were sharing these, and we said yes. From there, she did something really sweet without us asking for it. She requested the kitchen to separate these dishes so that it is easier to share, which was really nice!

Pancakes come with sugar and oat crust, blueberries and mascarpone cream. Their pancakes usually comes in three. However, they went the extra mile for us… they made smaller pancakes than normal so that they can make four pancakes, making it easy for us to share! They plated separately with two pancakes each, how kind! I really liked the oats, and even though you can’t really see the blueberries on here, they had a good amount of it around and under the pancakes. mascarpone cream was really nice, adding that velvety flavor to it. The pancakes were sweet but not overly sweet, and super fluffy!!! It was like clouds…

Fritatta is made with smoked salmon, egg whites, onions, tomatoes, capers, cream cheese, chives, served with sliced tomatoes, micro greens, lemon dressing. This is half the portion, again, plated separately so that we can each have our own plate. Both the pancakes and fritatta were favorites of our server, and after one bite, I could see the reason why. The fritatta was really delicious, fluffy and packed with flavor!

It had a generous amount of smoked salmon in it, fresh and melt in your mouth. It had a good amount of saltiness to it, without being too salty. Capers and cream cheese went great with smoked salmon, and egg that is cuddling it all was really nice.

We had a lovely breakfast here. I must be honest, I didn’t have high expectations…a restaurant attached to a hotel is not always great. BUT, they sure did proved me wrong at Lantana! Everything was delicious and service was warm, welcoming and efficient thanks to our wonderful server Veronica. If we were in that area, I would definitely go back for more of their tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner!
