Suzuki Tofu Shop

This post might be kind of random, and it will be a short one. Regardless, when I find anything that is tasty, I say it deserves attention! This is another one of my foodie sister’s recommendation. She knows good food, good desserts, and good drinks. Moreover, she does care about healthy food options too. This is a place that fit into that category. It is a Tofu shop that still makes tofu the old fashion way, all hand-made.

It is a small tofu shop, kind of hidden in a residential neighborhood. I think they are still popular among the locals, or maybe I should say “loved” by the locals. In a time when everything is mass-produced and sold in a huge supermarket, it is good to see these old fashion stores, still making things the same way it has been done since decades and decades ago. I love these types of simple, local, mom & pop shop.

This shop is owned and operated by a wife and husband team. There was one lady (I assume the owner of the shop) when we got there. It was already in the early evening, and she was getting ready to close down the shop for the day. But, she still welcomed us with a smile. They sell all kinds of tofu products, like handmade tofu, aburaage, and oboro tofu. Also, some tofu-related products like tofu soup and mabo tofu packet.

We were actually there for their Soy Milk (140 yen). Now, I have had my share of soy milk in my life, and it always tasted like “soy”… like drinking a liquid soy beans. So, I was super surprised when I tasted their soy milk. It tasted like tofu! I never knew that soy milk can taste like that. It was really great! Now I understand the reason why my sister took us all the way there to taste their soy milk.

It was awesome to visit the local tofu shop, and taste their amazing soy milk! It was soooo fresh and smooth, delicious and you got it, healthy! Since it was the end of the day, the owner gave us the rest of the soy milk that she had left, for no extra charge. How sweet!!! I wish if there was a local shop like this nearby where I live in NYC… If you have a chance to visit this tofu shop, stop by and taste some of their homemade delicious tofu products!
