Tsukiji Sushi Say @ Tokyo Station

Before we went to Japan, we saw a TV clip of this place in Tokyo Station. We really, really wanted to go there, so made sure that we will be in Tokyo station one morning. I heard that they get lines in the morning, even before they open up at 7am. We didn’t go quite so early, so we missed the morning rush hour. As the name suggests, their original restaurant is in Tsukiji, which is famous for their fish market. They have several locations, but since the one we saw on a TV was this location, so we wanted to go to this one.

As soon as we stood at the entrance, an energetic female staff asked us what we wanted to eat with a big smile. They have menu at the entrance, and you need to decide what to order before you take your seat. We ordered and paid at the register first, and then took us to an open table. While we were there, many people came and went, during their morning commute. Since we were not in a hurry, we took our time. The inside is kind of small, with five counter seats and around five tables.

The sushi counter is fun if you are getting sushi here. I heard their sushi is excellent. Fresh and tasty. We love sushi, but we were here for breakfast set. So we were happy at our table. The staff brought us complimentary green tea, which was nice and rich, strong green tea flavor.

For my breakfast, I ordered Tai Gomadare (670 yen). It is red seabream sashimi, sitting in sesame sauce. It comes with steamed rice, side dishes and dashi soup for ochazuke.

The side dish was picked radish and Japanese egg omelette. The omelette was quite fluffy, had nice sweetness to it. I really liked that.

Now, it is time for me to try the red seabream sashimi! The staff told us to first try the sashimi on its own with the sesame sauce. Then, make it into ochazuke. So, I did exactly that. The sashimi were so plump and meaty, it was delightful!!! The sesame sauce was super tasty, went great with the sashimi. My goodness it was awesome!

I put the rest of the sashimi and sesame sauce on the steamed white rice, and poured the dashi soup on top. Ochazuke is usually made with ocha, or green tea. But here, it is with dashi soup, which I thought was great. Better to have that with the sashimi than with green tea.

After I poured all the dashi soup, I put the toppings on it. The toppings are dried seaweed, and crunchy round crackers.

And my special ochazuke was complete! It looked so good, and the aroma…my goodness I could not wait any longer. With my first bite, I was hooked. I already loved the sashimi on its own, but the ochazuke version of it was super cool! The dashi had warm, earthy flavor to it, mixing with sweet sesame sauce flavor. The sashimi wa still plump and meaty, and the toppings added extra texture to it. It was one of the best breakfast ever! I wish if I could have it again right now…

My hubby got himself a Makanai Don (800 yen). It came with special soy sauce and miso soup. It was super colorful and exciting just to look at it. It comes with whatever the fresh fish that they have for the day, so this is really great dish. The bowl is a nice size, so even though it does not come with any other side dish, it is filling.

Look at this bowl full jewels, super fresh seafood over sushi rice! And yes they were amazing!!! Several different kinds of crazy fresh sashimi, they were all plump and meaty, delicious and just magical. It was pure symphony in our mouth and tummy! The miso soup was pretty nice too, deep and earthy, great dashi flavor.

Sush a luxurious breakfast, decadent, fresh and most of all, delicious! It was soothing to our soul and we got warm form inside and out with the rich flavor. I wish if I could go get breakfast all the time… But, because we can’t get there easily, it makes it extra special for us. The staffs here were all very sweet and friendly too. I know we will be going back here again during our next visit to Japan! If you want high quality, super fresh, very delicious seafood breakfast (or lunch or dinner), head over to Sushi Say at Tokyo Station!
