Green to Go

Just when I thought I finally finished writing about places in Portland, I had to go to New Orleans… LOL. As many of the foodies out there know, there are loads of great places to eat in New Orleans. While I was there for work, I tried to eat more healthy food, so that I can reward myself later. One of the best healthy food spots I found was called Green to Go. Sounds healthy already, right? It is located inside a large building on the street level. They have a huge space, with some counter seats on the side. It is mostly takeout spot, so they don’t have many seating options. The large space was so clean, really spotless. The counter table had hand sanitizer and wipes to keep us safe from germs too.

They offer so many different kinds of salad bowls and such. There are some that are ready-made, or you can ask the super friendly owner lady to make one for you. All of their offerings sounded great, so I had a hard time choosing. I mean, imagine talking about having hard time choosing a salad… But I am serious!

So, eventually, I went with Kale & Quinoa ($11.50) and Unicorn ($11.50). The Kale & Quinoa is made with kale, quinoa, roasted sweet potato, apples, onions, and Dijon vinaigrette. I tell you what, this thing was sooooooo good, I gobbled it up without taking a picture! I know, the horror! LOL. But honestly, it was extremely delicious! The sweet potato was nice and soft, with that natural sweetness. Kale was super fresh, and quinoa gave that popping texture. Apples were crisp, and onion gave that sharp flavor. The dressing was really good too. I usually don’t use up all the salad dressing that come with a salad, but it was delightful, and I used them all up! I was a big fan of Green to Go after this first salad. Unfortunately, I had an issue with my hotel fridge, and the Unicorn salad didn’t make it… I was so looking forward to tasting this one too…

I went back to Green to Go a few days later for more of their offerings. This time, I got their Daily Special: Spring Vegetable Fettuccini Alfredo (sorry I forgot to get the price, but I think it is around $12?) which comes with a choice of chicken or sausage. She also offered a choice of tofu, and I thought why not choose tofu??? So, I went with Tofu. It was nice and hot, and a really good portion too. It was tasty with a good amount of veggies, and the pasta was cooked just right. Cheesy and very satisfying. It is great that they offer more than salad at Green to Go.

I also purchased Blue ($11.50) to have for later (yes, I got my fridge issue fixed). Blue comes with blueberries, bacon, chopped egg, blue cheese, red onion, baby spinach, and honey lemon vinaigrette. This time, I remembered to take photos. And just look at this beauty! Isn’t it vibrant and so appetizing? The salad was as amazing as I expected at this point. Super fresh, great portion, and delicious! I could have their salad every day and I bet I won’t get tired of eating them. The blueberries were ripe and sweet, bacon bits were meaty, and blue cheese with that distinctive flavor that went great with the salad as a whole.

I really loved Green to Go salads. It kept me feeling healthy, while being very full and satisfied. It gave me energy to keep going without feeling heavy. The owner was super welcoming and helpful, I can see why people keep going back to Green to Go. I wish if they were here in NYC… If you are looking for a healthy, delicious meal option in New Orleans, head over to Green to Go! Their salads and Daily Specials are quite amazing!
