Sweet Chick

I have been interested in this spot for a while, and we finally got to visit their Union Square location! It is set up like a regular fast-food joint, with order/pick up counter, and table seating. Not so big, but had enough seating. Since it is a fast-food restaurant, the turnover is quick. The interior was modern and crisp, I liked the combination of green and wood throughout the interior.

They had some merchandise near the entrance which was interesting. They had self-water station, which is always helpful. The soda machine is next to the seating area, so that the customer can fill/re-fill the drinks.

The staff at the ordering counter, Marcus, was welcoming and very helpful. Since it was my first time visiting, he gave me good advice and made sure I was happy with my order. We decided on The Original Chicken & Waffles, and Chicken & Fries. We also got their Daily Lemonades.

They had several flavors under the Daily Lemonade. I chose Peach Nectar Lemonade ($7) and Mango Nectar Lemonade ($7). The mango one had stronger flavor, and it tasted like made with real fruits. We really enjoyed these lemonades. You can get a regular lemonade, without the special flavor for $6 also.

I was feeling like some fries, so I ordered Chicken & Fries ($14). It comes with 2pc. bone-in or 3pc. boneless chicken, served with fries. The staff, Marcus told me that 3pc is like chicken tenders. I got the 3pc option thinking that it is easier to eat. I thought I was supposed to choose a flavor with the order, but actually, it was additional option… Without realizing, I asked Marcus which sauce flavor is his favorite, and he said Maple Chipotle is the best. Then, he also asked me if I wanted the sauce on the side for dipping, instead of the chicken pieces being coated in it. He told me that is how he prefers, so I went with that recommendation. It is a safe choice, since you never know if you like the flavor or not. Marcus was so helpful with my order, making sure I was taken care of and happy with what I was getting. The Flavor Sauce can be added for extra ($2), making this order to be $16 total.

The Maple Chipotle sauce was really delicious. Sweet with a nice kick to it. At the same time, I was happy that the chicken pieces were not drenched in the sauce. Great recommendation Marcus! Chicken was tender and moist, juicy with nice crunchy exterior. I was happy to see the side of fries being the crinkle cut fries, reminded me of the good old days… They were soft, potato-y, and very tasty. The order also came with Ranch dipping sauce, which I used for these fries for extra flavor.

The Sweet Chick seem to be popular and famous with their chicken and waffles, so my husband was excited to order chicken and waffles. Now, you can order it as is, The Original Chicken & Waffles ($18). Again, I didn’t realize that, so I told my hubby to choose the flavor and waffles, which was both available with additional cost. Well, it was a lesson for me to read the menu carefully the next time. LOL. So, he chose Maple Chipotle flavor sauce ($2) and Bacon Cheddar Specialty Waffles ($2). That made this order to be $22. The order comes with 2pc. bone-in or 3pc. boneless chicken with classic Belgian waffle. My hubby chose 2pc. bone-in, with 1 thigh and 1 leg.

The bone-in chicken pieces were definitely more flavorful. It had that deep, savory flavor that you can only get with the bone-in chicken. And they were super juicy delicious! These chicken pieces were coated in the Maple Chipotle, which was good, but I think the chicken does not need any extra flavor added, since it was tasty on its own.

Same can be said for the waffles. We got the Bacon Cheddar Specialty Waffle, which simply had bacon bits and cheese sprinkled on the waffles. The waffles were tasty on its own, so I don’t think the sprinkles of bacon and cheese was not necessary. Their special butter, however, was amazing! It was Honey and Berry Butter, and that was super awesome! The flavor of the honey and the berry went great with the waffle. It also came with the maple syrup, and the awesomeness is complete. The waffle was fluffy yet very filling.

They have one public restroom, to the back right. Make sure you read the door labels, as only one of the doors says restroom. it was roomy, bright, and the red & white checker design on the wall made me think of old-timey burger spots like Big Boy.

Our first trip to the Sweet Chick was a success! Thank you Marcus for making our visit easy and tasty. We enjoyed our orders, and now we know how to order better the next time. Definitely bone-in chicken, and don’t need additional fancy flavors… Or maybe get one side of Maple Chipotle sauce to dip in. Speaking of chicken, they offer Vegetarian Chicken too! So if you are in a mood for some fried chicken dishes that are kind of southern style for quick, try the Sweet Chick!
