Parker & Quinn

The best kind of outing for dining for me is brunch. There is something extra fun, comforting, relaxing and delicious about brunch… We found another brunch spot bear Bryant Park with pretty good review, so we decided to go check them out.

The first thing that greeted us as we walked in was an old and totally beautiful cashier register, used as a business card holder. How awesome! I love it when an antique is re-purposed to a good use.

Then the restaurant opens to a bar area. A big, really big bar area. The bar was very pretty, and came with few TV screens. There are bar stools all around the bar, and there are more seating by the window. The wall facing the street is covered by windows, letting in tons of natural light.

To the right of the bar, there are some booth seating that is a couple of steps up. There was a dark wooded upright piano looking divider(?) between the main floor with the bar and the booth seating few steps up. I didn’t really know what that thing was until I got to see the rest of the restaurant.

But first, let me talk about the classy interior. I loved the crystal chandelier that made me think of the Times Square ball that gets dropped on the New Years Day. But more classy and elegant, something from a long ago. The wall paper creates more antique atmosphere, with many old photographs on the wall. The tafted booth seats in dark blue, kind of Prussian blue completes the look. I really loved the way it looked!

One of the staff came to the front within a minute, and took us to the back. The area behind the bar was much bigger, and I could see that the bar takes up about half of the entire space, sitting the middle of the half space. The counter seat goes all around the bar.

The booth seats that are a couple of steps up goes all the way to the end too. And the upright piano looking divider things were actually benches! With more spaces here without the bar, they added a small round bar table with red chairs in front of it. Nice way to utilize the space to create more seating options.

Speaking of more seat options, they had large seating space on the opposite side from the bar. They had booth and chair mixed together, creating flexible seating arrangement. I also liked the old-fashion tiled floor. They used different color and design of the tiles to created a separated area from the main floor with the bar.

Ok, enough about their beautiful interior. Let’s talk food! We ordered Malted Waffle ($16) and Steak & Eggs ($24).

The Malted Waffle comes with New York maple syrup and whipped salted butter. They had an option to add rum sautéed seasonal fruits for additional $3, so we decided to do that. When it was brought to our table, I thought the waffle was supposed to come with whipped cream, but then I realized that it comes with “whipped salted butter,” not whipped cream. I was a bit sad about it, but that was until I had the first bite. My goodness it was delicious! The fruits were amazing, great flavor, didn’t need any whipped cream with this baby. The texture was perfect, not to soft, not too firm. The waffle itself was really nice too, and the maple syrup completed the perfect marriage of this waffle and fruits.

Steak & Egg had two options, 8 oz hanger steak ($24) or 16 oz boneless ribeye ($39). Since we didn’t need 16 oz of meat, we went with hanger steak. It came with two eggs any style and crushed yukons. It came with a good amount of meat and, well, everything else. A bit pricey for brunch item, but they give you a really nice portion.

The yukons were great. Nice size, packed with flavor. It was soft and potato-y in the inside, and had a nice crispy exterior. Very addicting…

We asked for the eggs to be cooked over-easy, and the way it was cooked was just perfect! They cooked both side just right, so that the yolk was still runny in the middle, giving us a tasty egg porn… Thank you!

We asked the steak to be medium rare. They came out pretty good, the one on the end (shown here) was more pink in the center. They were certainly tasty, and it had some kind of steak sauce on it already, which was really good too.

Finding a restroom was kind of a mission on its own. The staff gave me a direction on how to get there… So, you first go pass the kitchen to your left, with the sign that says Toilet on the wall to your right. Goes all the way to the end, where you will see more signs for bathrooms, pointing to the door.

When you open the door, you will be stepping into a Refinery Hotel. I didn’t realize that this restaurant is connected to a hotel, so that was a bit of a surprise.

The bathroom is shared with the hotel, and they are directly in front of the door of the restaurant. They had several uni-sex bathrooms, with very cool signs on the door.

The bathroom was pretty simple, with very New York picture hanging on the wall for the tourists (I assume) staying at the hotel. They use a black marble for the sink and counter, a subtle fancy-ness added to the simple and clean bathroom.

To go back to the restaurant, find the dark wood door with small sign on the wall that says Parker & Quinn. Or, if you are all finished, you can also go back out to the street from the hotel entrance/exit.

The brunch was a success, we had a really nice meal here. Our server, Rachel was very nice, friendly and helpful. They had a manager (?) on the floor and she was really nice and helpful also. We were well taken care of, and we really enjoyed the food, more so than we expected. I am happy we discovered another awesome place to have brunch! And yes, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner also, and most certainly cocktails. If you are in the area and wanting some tasty food or drinks with warm service, give them a try!
