MISOJYU

While we were in Japan during the past winter, we decided to go to Asakusa area for a day. I found this interesting spot called MISOJYU, focused on Miso Soup, and wanted to go there for breakfast. Unfortunately, the main Asakusa location was closed for the holidays, and have not yet reopened for the year on that day. Luckly for us, they have a second location in Solamachi Mall right by the Sky Tree, and that location was already opened for business. So, we headed to Solamachi early for their breakfast menu. Somachi Mall is pretty cool, it has loads of shops and eateries, you can spend hours and hours there. A great place to find souvenirs and gifts as well. We found Misojyu on the ground floor, and since it was early morning, before most shops opens, it was very quiet. They have a window showcase featuring all the rice balls they offer on that day. It is always great to be able to see what the food is going to look like.

They have a nice amount of seating here. Some counter seating next to the ordering counter, and table seating inside. Some customers came and went, but don’t usually stay too long, as it is more of a quick bites.

Three great things I noticed about this place. One: They have compartments under the seats for all your belongings. Most Japanese restaurants provide some kind of compartment for your belongings, so you don’t have to place them on the floor. Second: They had complimentary hot tea and water, self service so that you can get them whenever you want. Third: you can watch them make all the tasty items!

What I wanted was their Breakfast Set (770 yen) (about $5.24 in January 2024). It comes with Morning Miso Soup, One Rice Ball, A Half Boiled Egg, and Pickles. Where in the world can you get this kind of healthy, quality, tasty food for that cheap???

The Morning Miso Soup of the day was made with Cabbage, Seaweed, and Hana-fu, which is a flower-shaped wheat-gluten bread. It gets soft in the soup, like a very soft sponge. The soup was a good portion, as they focus on miso soup, the soup is the main here. It had lots of ingredients, great flavor of quality miso. They use organic vegetables and hand made soup stock with bonito flakes and kelp. You can taste the earthy, healthy, rich flavor with each sip. You get to choose which rice ball you want, and I went with Salmon. The thing about their rice ball is…they are VERY small. The rice ball is good though, also made with organic rice, and have a good amount of selections. Marinated boiled egg was another great item to give you protein and flavor. It was cooked perfectly, and look at this beautiful bright orange yolk!

Realizing how small the rice ball is, my hubby decided to add two more rice balls to the Morning Set. He got Salmon Rice Ball with the set, and added French Sea Salt and Mentaiko (Spicy Cod Roe) for 200 yen each, making his total to be 1,170 yen (about $8). Still super affordable. All the rice balls were really tasty, high quality and each bite was satisfying.

The staffs here are very polite and courteous. The food comes out quickly and so good for your body and soul. The price is amazingly affordable, and you can always add more rice balls if you need. The Breakfast Set is only available between 8am – 10am (Solamachi location), but you can regular MISOJYU Set after that, or order a la carte any time. They have several different kinds of amazing miso soups and rice balls to make you happy! If you are looking for a healthy, tasty, affordable breakfast (or any meal), give this spot a try!
