Maison Pickle #2

Even though we’ve only been to Maison Pickle for brunch once, this place has been on our minds ever since… We had amazing food here, in which we couldn’t finish since the portion was huge! We were happy with completely full stomach! It was about time we went back for more… This time, we were taken to the upper level dining area, small but with a nice view of down stairs.

We went for dinner this time, and we started off with some cocktails. My hubby went with Fairy Mule ($15), as he loves Moscow Mule type drinks. This one is made with Absinthe, Galliano, Lemon, Fresh Ginger, Honey, Bitters, and Ginger Beer. It was so strong, I didn’t really taste anything other than alcohol… I did get the kick of ginger though.

I chose Upper West Side ($14), made with Cognac, Apple Brandy, and Carpano Antica. It was elegantly sweet with subtle apple flavor. Tasty and strong!

For appetizer, we ordered something that we were really curious about: their pull-apart bread. I have seen some photos of them, and we actually saw someone order one during our last visit, and it looked so good! We went with Pull Apart Feta Herb & Olive ($12). It came nice and hot, and the portion was huge! Enough to share among four to six people, I say. The bread was so soft and fluffy, with fresh feta and herbs… Such a delight!

For main dish, we decided to go for their specialty, French Dip. Since we assumed the pull apart bread would be large in portion, we ordered one French Dip to share. They had four different types to choose from, and we went with Deluxe French Dip ($24). It is made with Sirloin of Beef, Fried Onions, Caramelized Onions, and Gruyere Fondue on house baked French bread with pan-scraped jus, and big dill pickle.

Since we told them that we were going to share one order, they separated the order into two plates for us, thanks! And half the order was still enormous! They also gave us a nice amount of jus for each of us, which was great. After one bite, I was in love. It was one of the best French dip ever!!! Fresh bread that soaked up all the goodness, with generous amount of tender meat, THE BEST!!! Fried onion was amazing too, I liked the added crunchy texture. Jus was simply heavenly, deep earthy flavor, perfect seasoning, and comforting. Decadent, marvelous, and delicious!

We were planning to have their famous 24-layer cake, and since we already had the 24-Layer Chocolate Cake, we were going to try different kind of cake. The server told us that there is a confetti cake and a special Pink Champagne kind, so we went with Pink Champagne. The funny story is that they brought us the Confetti Cake. I asked him “this is the champagne one?” In which he responded “Yes, Confetti Cake” in rather strong, assuring tone. So I said “oh, are they the same thing? I thought confetti cake and champagne cake were different items…” He walked away, a bit confused, as we were. I started to take photos below, and then our server came to us and said, “You want the Pink Champagne cake, or the Confetti Cake?” Well, well…so those two ARE different cakes!

The server apologized for the error and brought what we ordered, the 24-Layer Pink Champagne Cake ($14)! It took a while, but the 24-Layer cake at Maison Pickle is worth the wait for sure…

It was really pretty with the light pink color, and yes, super tall with crazy amount of layers! It was sweet with velvety cream, didn’t really get champagne flavor so much, but a hint of rosé champagne that comes through. We took half or more of the came home with us, as we were really full from the food. And this cake is ginormous!

Our second visit to Maison Pickle was success! We loved the food and dessert! The servers were very nice polite, even with the little mishaps of the dessert confusion, they were very courteous. We had a great dinner here, I am sure we will be back for more in the near future!
