Ruby’s Cafe

We went to have a brunch at one of the Ruby’s Cafe at Soho location last summer. Yes, I am still catching up from last year… They don’t take reservation, and so there might be a little wait when you go there during the peak time. The SoHo location is the only spot we’ve visited, so I don’t know about the other spots, but this one was smaller than I thought. It had a lovely looking outdoor seating area, which was a nice size. So if you put all the dining areas together, they are not that small at the end.

They had the windows that looks more like garage doors, and they were fully opened. Nice way to get the outdoor air in to the indoor space. The interior was simple yet cozy and fun. I like the navy accents against the crisp white walls.

It was a hot day, so we wanted something cold to go with our food. One of their Seasonal Drink Special caught my eyes: Dirt Bag Shirley ($12). It might not be a pleasant name (sorry to Shirley), but it sounded really good! It was explained as “Spiked Shirley Temple aka the Drink of the Summer” and it is made with Vodka, Sprite, and House-made Grenadine. It was really tasty and super refreshing!

The Ruby’s Cafe offers dishes with Australian influences, with fresh local products. I went with Spicy Sausage Breakfast Sandwich ($12.50). Since it does not come with anything, I decided to add Fries with Truffle Aioli ($7.50). It is their famous Shoestring Fries with Truffle Aioli and Fresh Parsley. The fries came in the huge bowl! They were perfectly fried, not greasy at all, with soft inside and crispy outside. Loved the aioli. I could have this every day…

My love for breakfast sandwich is still going, and their sandwich is made with Pork Sausage, Fontina Cheese, Chilli Jam, Scrambled Egg, Spring Pea Leaves, Lemon Aioli, and Potato Bun. Eggs were super fluffy with perfect seasoning. Cheese was like melty snow, look how they are melting over on the top… Totally drool worthy right there. The sausage had a nice kick to it, but not so spicy. The sandwich was meaty, and spinach was perfect addition. Buns were perfectly toasted, still soft and just right. The chili added extra kick, loved this sandwich!

My hubby was feeling extra hungry, so he went with the Big Breakfast ($19), made with Two Cage-free Eggs Your Way, Blistered Campari Tomatoes On The Vine, Bacon, Sautéed Mushrooms, Hash Brown, and Baked Beans. Bacon has sweetness to it, which I liked. Not overly crispy but still soft, which I prefer. The hash brown was great, packed with flavor!

Tomato was super juicy, perfectly grilled. We got the eggs sunny-side up. They came out just the way we like them. Beans were nice too. Everything on the plate was amazing and delightful. And yes, it does make you really full!

We ended our brunch with a nice cup of Flat White ($4). It was a strong cup of coffee, smooth and almost creamy, made to order on espresso machine.

The bathroom is located in the back wall, near the center of the wall. They have one tiny bathroom, or I should say “NY size” bathroom. It was well maintained and clean.

We had a really nice brunch there. The service was friendly, courteous and polite. I would love to go back for more tasty food in a near future…
