Now that I am finished with all the places we visited in Portland, I have to move onto placed we visited in Japan and elsewhere. As many people know, Japan is such a food destination. It is always the hardest to choose which places to go out to so many great food spots. Japan not only have great food spots, but also amazing dessert spots! One of the dessert places we visited was called The Little Bakery Tokyo.

It was a popular spot as expected. It had a large wooden bench outside, and saw a couple of people eating stuff on there. The inside is a bit on a small side, as it is a cafe and not a restaurant. I also think that it looked smaller with many customers in the space, making it look smaller than it actually is. They had lots of American stuff as decoration, as they say this cafe is American-inspired.

There is a large table in the middle, with their food offerings, pies, etc. The customers have to go around the table the long way, looking at all the options, and finally getting to the ordering and cashier. Next to the ordering counter, there is a window case filled with amazing looking doughnuts, made by Good Town Doughnuts, who is a sister company to The Little Bakery Tokyo.

When you are ordering and paying for your food, they ask you if you want to eat-in or to-go. We were planning to have our dessert and coffee there, so the staff directed us to a table. Now, the staffs were not very polite nor super nice, which was said by some customers from the past. I could say, maybe, just maybe, they are also taking their customer service to be American-inspired, instead of the traditional Japanese “omotenashi” manner? LOL. Sorry, I just had to go there… The seating area is small, with a handful of tables and counter seating as well. They have the usual basket/container that you can use to put your personal items under the table.

We ordered three donuts, and Oat Milk Latte (710 yen) to go with them. Their doughnuts looks really good, so it was not easy to choose just three…but we managed. They were a nice large size, as they call “American size” doughnuts. They also provide wet towels for your hands, that is very Japanese, and yes, very much appreciated.

The first doughnut of choice was California Strawberry Lemonade Doughnut (450 yen). Just a quick side note: If you take the doughnuts to go, the final price with tax and such is ever-so-slightly cheaper. This one had a really nice flavor of strawberry and lemonade, super tasty! And having the ripe strawberry and candied lemon added to the flavor. The dough was moist and airy, yet rich and satisfying.

The second one was Van Houten Chocolate Crunch Doughnut (430 yen). Now, I don’t know if this doughnut is made with actual Van Houten chocolate, or they just like using American names, like “California” strawberry lemonade… Regardless, it was chocolate-y, and I enjoyed the texture of the chocolate crunch. I liked how it was not completed coated in chocolate, so that it was not overly sweet.

Last but not least, Kyoto Uji Matcha Doughnut (420 yen). We love matcha, so we couldn’t say no to this one. It had a real matcha flavor, a bit bitter, mixed with sweet white chocolate to have the perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness. I liked the crunchy pearl on the doughnut too, it added that extra texture.

They have a bathroom in the back, just one small gender-neutral bathroom. Just look for a bright blue bathroom sign, and a huge American flag. LOL. It was a small bathroom, almost like a tiny NYC bathroom, so they got that part right too. But it was very clean and well maintained.

We had a nice dessert time here at The Little Bakery Tokyo. We enjoyed all the doughnuts. Great flavor and large size, sure to fill you up. The latte was quite good too, rich and aromatic. The decor was cute, the atmosphere was lively. We enjoyed our afternoon delight time.
