The Ribbon

We went to this spot for a tasty event. This restaurant was not under my radar, so it was good to discover a new spot. It had a simple, modern exterior, nothing too fancy but elegantly done.

The first area at the entrance is more lounge-type dining set up, with a bar next to it. The bar is not massive so that they don’t take up too much space of the restaurant. Most of the space is allocated for dining, which allows more seating and more customers.

And they certainly have good amount of seating. The decor is rather simple with pops of lights. The walls and flooring looked more antique with wood and red bricks, mixed with more modern, industrial style light fixtures.

And when I say antique decor, they have some fun antique items there, like this Jukebox! So cool! It is located passed the bar, near the staircase leading to their bathroom. I wonder if anyone puts coins in it while dining? That would be so fun!

The bathroom is located downstairs, a bit of a long flight of stairs, accompanied by red bricks and old-fashion tiles.

They had an old poster by the bathroom door, and the sign on the door in old-fashion style to match. The inside was nice and bright, with cute old-fashioned tiles. Since they were a couple of ladies in here, I didn’t take any photo in the inside.

At the back of the restaurant, they had more dining space. This is the area where we used for our event. A great area for a private party. They had a good amount of seating, and the center of the room was kept open for the event. I am not sure if this is the way it usually look when it is not used as an event space.

They had some nice looking booth seating next to a cool mural, that kind of made me think of an old farm. The message here was “Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat” – great message! They also had a cute round table at the corner for a bigger group.

And the feeling of antique is carried into this space, with a classic record player! How cool is that! I wonder if they have a set of records that can be played in this baby?

We started off with the event with wines. Lots and lots of wines! The staff kept pouring more and more wines, as it seems like we were all wine lovers. They had Rosé and Riesling wines, both Sterling Wines.

We certainly got a glass, or two, or three… Good think we don’t have to worry about driving when you are out in the City! They were both pleasant, not too strong flavor so that they won’t compete against their food.

And speaking of food, we had so much food at this event, it was awesome! The first item we got to sample was Chicken Liver Mousse with pecan pomegranate. It was nice and creamy, great combination of flavors working together to create a great harmony. The different textures were fun too; Fluffy bread, creamy mousse, crunchy pecan and plump pomegranate.

Then we had Shrimp on Tortilla, which was their take on the shrimp taco. It was fun little hors d’oeuvre appetizer! The shrimp was plump, comfortably sitting atop creamy guacamole. Refreshing little bite.

Next up was Black Bean Burgers, some referred to them as Black Bean “Sliders.” It was bigger than normal sliders, but a bit smaller than a burger. Would this be a “Burder” or “Sliger”??? Well, let’s just call them Sliders for now.

The sliders had pickle pepper crema instead of cheese, which was interesting. The Black Bean patty was very thick and satisfying. Not the best veggie burgers I’ve ever had, but still pretty good. Didn’t taste like I was biting into some beans, it had nice flavor and texture.

Now, this one was one of my favorite of the evening. What looked like a Buffalo Chicken at a quick glance, but it was Buffalo Style Cauliflower! It was really tasty, I never had cauliflowers this way, and it was great! The cauliflowers were cooked just right, not too firm nor too soft. Very addicting and what a great alternative to buffalo chicken.

And more food just kept coming out… We got to sample Housemade Flatbread with Ricotta, Bacon, and Broccolini. It had Ricotta cheese on it, which went great with bacon and broccolini. It was a nice little crunchy snack, and since the flat bread was really thin, it felt light even with bacon and cheese. I enjoyed the mix of broccolini and crispy bacon, it had just the right amount of salty flavor from the bacon.

Then we had Deviled Eggs with spicy pickled pepper. It also had olive oil mayo. Nice and creamy with a good kick. Some of the peppers were more spicy than others, the one I tried definitely had some heat!

We had another vegetarian dish before the event ended. It was Fried Mushroom Risotto. Just like arancini. It was served in marinara sauce which complimented the risotto flavor really well. The seasoning itself was good too, quite comforting.

Then the final climax of the event, we got the best of the best. Fried Chicken to die for! Their Fried Chicken is cooked with company secret spice, and my goodness this chicken was awesome! Super delicious and juicy, definitely the star of the night. Very crunchy exterior with super tasty seasoning, hugging a juicy and plump meat. We all enjoyed it so much!

The manager (?) came around towards the end to see if we all enjoyed the food. When we told him how much we enjoyed the chicken (and the rest, of course), he told us that they offer some kind of chicken and pancake for brunch. We might need to head back over to The Ribbon for some of that!

All the staffs were really nice, friendly and polite. They took a really nice care of us. It was a fun and tasty event, we had a good time here and we felt welcomed the entire time. A great place to get together with friends and family for some tasty food!
