Café Trois

There are many Asian cafés in Manhattan, but do like finding and going to the ones across the George Washington Bridge, in NJ. I feel that the selection are larger, and the prices are lower. We found another café across the bridge, so we headed out for a brunch.

The selection and prices are not the only thing NJ cafés got going, but also the massive space! The café is located at an outdoor mall, with large parking lot. The inside was much bigger than I expected it to be, bright and clean, modern and spacious.

They had two spots to return your trays and dishes, one by the entrance and one all the way back. Convenient for customers who sits closer to the back. The one in the back also had complimentary water, which I always am very grateful for…I love having water with my food, even if I have other drinks.

Now, the “selection” part. They had loads of freshly baked goods, of all kinds. They all looked and sounded really good… They also had some sandwiches, salads, quiche, etc., that can be heated up for you upon request. They have trays and tongs there so that you can pick what you want onto your tray. When we got there, they had no tongs left, so I had to go around and ask the staff for one.

We were more in the mood for baked goods, and it was not easy to choose to just a few. Just look at these gorgeous babies!

And if that’s not enough, they had many cakes there too! They looked soooo nice, I wanted to try them all… But, we had to get some “real” food first. So, we only got the baked goods.

So, here is our selection. We got four items and hot drinks to go with them. My hubby got Crème Brûlée Latte ($4.95). It was sweet as you can imagine, nice sweet coffee. I went with Korean Honey Tea, with Yuzu ($4.75). This one came in a huge paper cup! Great aroma of yuzu with nice amount of real yuzu pieces in it. Sweet with honey, great drink on a chilly day. I found loads of yuzu pieces on the bottom, which I enjoyed as well.

The first baked good items of our choice was Green Tea Almond Croissant ($3.75). We have a weakness of Matcha Croissant… But this one was a bit different from other matcha croissants we’ve tried at similar type of cafés (Blue Angel Café & Bakery, D’avant Bakery). This one had a nice amount of almond slices, and had matcha-flavored almond paste, in the inside. Flakey and great almond flavor, I enjoyed it!

Next one was Crème Brûlée Doughnut ($2.45). A cute little ball of bread filled with vanilla bean cream, topped with caramelized sugar. I love how it was drizzling over it. A cool concept, sweet without being too sweet. A bit of a challenge to eat as the cream ooze out with each bite.

Then a savory item, Croquette ($2.50). We enjoy these deep fried croquettes from similar cafés, and as the croissant, a bit different from other spots (Blue Angel Café & Bakery, D’avant Bakery). This one reminded me of gyoza, because the filling was a bit similar to gyoza filling in my opinion. I liked the crunchy texture from veggies, such as cabbage (I think).

Last but not least, French Cream Donut ($2.75). It might not look like much, but it was great! Loads of velvety and tasty cream filling in there, although I didn’t see any vanilla bean. The bread was super fluffy and airy, elegantly sweet, loved it!

So, our visit to this newly discovered café was a success! I must say the customer service here is not the best…but the food was excellent! They do offer brunch menu such as omelette, French Toast, and Croque Madame. I would like to try their brunch menu the next time we visit!
