Eggy’s Minneapolis

While traveling to Minneapolis on business, I had one opportunity to eat out. I had several places I wanted to check out, but I had to choose just one…which was not easy. It was for lunch, and I was craving some kind of comfort food. This spot stood out from the crowd with one of my (many) weaknesses – all day breakfast!

It was located on a quiet street, seemed more residential than commercial. Busy enough on Monday at lunchtime. Family friendly spot, probably the people who live in the neighborhood, as they were mostly on foot as they were arriving/leaving. They had a small bar right off the entrance, with dining area to the right and to the left. I was greeted by a staff immediately, but asked to wait to be seated. After a few minutes, I was taken to a table.

It had a great amount of natural light with huge windows covering the walls facing the street. The restaurant was a nice size, not too big, not too small with plenty of comfy seating. The staffs were friendly, well, not all of them were friendly…

They had cool lighting fixtures, modern and chic. A bit of industrial look to it, while keeping warm and comfy atmosphere.

From the moment I sat at my table, it took a while for someone to come get my order. It was not easy to get someone’s attention here, they were all walking so fast, and don’t really look at you… So, I waited with Mr. Eggy who kept smiling at me, promising some good eats. I almost ordered a burger and a shake after looking at him for a while.

Instead, I went with Cappuccino ($3.95) and Breakfast Poutine ($11.75). I heard about the crazy size of their dishes, but I didn’t realize how crazy it would be… The cappuccino looked so small next to the dish!

Breakfast Poutine is made with Eggy’s fries and cheese curds, topped with two eggs your way, and smothered in sausage gravy. And did I mention it is HUGE!!! The server didn’t ask me how I wanted the eggs, so they came poached, which I was fine with anyway.

One of the poached eggs was overcooked, but the second egg was perfect! Time for some egg porn… The gravy was nice, it had sweet and savory flavor at the same time.

The cheese curds were made into squares, and fried. Dense yet so fluffy! So extremely filling… I got almost to the half point and couldn’t eat any more. I was stuffed!

The server here doesn’t bother you unless you need something. But at the same time, it was a bit difficult to get their attention if you do need something, like a check. It was nice and relaxing, but I would’ve like to feel a bit more welcomed… The food was good, certainly got my fix on comfort food craving!
