Sa Rit Gol #2

We were craving some good Korean food, and it was time to go back to one spot that we really enjoyed… Sa Rit Gol! The last time and the first time we visited, the food was enormous, delicious, and we really liked the authentic atmosphere. No frills, just some good food! Most of the customers here are Korean customers, a sign of tasty authentic Korean food. And, since it is located in NJ, the price point is better than NYC.

They brought us some complimentary side dishes, and as you can see with the fire red colors, they are all nice and spicy! I love kimchi, I wish if I could take lots of them home… Well, we actually tried to take a bit of it home before, and it stunk up the car… Best to enjoy them at a restaurant, and leave the remaining at the restaurant.

We were there for a weekend brunch, and it seems like their menu has shrunk. But for as long as the dishes we wanted were on there, it was all good. We ordered one of our favorite Korean dish, Je Yuk Bok Eum, or Grilled Spicy Pork ($17.99). They brought a generous amount of spicy pork, mountain of it! It came with a small white rice. It goes so well with simple white rice… It was really tasty, with nice amount of spicy-ness, but not too much. Meat was tender and juicy, packed with flavor. So good! We were full after about half of it.

Another dish we ordered was Go Deung U Gu I, or Grilled Mackerel ($11.99). Look at this beauty! It also came with a small white rice. It came sizzling to our table, enhancing our appetite to the max! I squeezed the lemon all over the fish, and had the first bite with excitement. However, my expectation felt a bit short… I felt as though it didn’t have much of any flavor. Maybe it was the fact that the pork and kimchi were so very flavorful, which made this fish to be a bit bland. It needed some seasoning, as simple of salt would have helped greatly. I still enjoyed it regardless.

At the end, they gave us couple of mint gums with our check. As kimchi can have strong…aroma, this would be a great thing to have, especially if you are on a date!

The staffs were nice, but it was a bit difficult to get their attention sometimes. We had to ask a few times to get refills on the hot tea. The manager (owner?) was very nice and welcoming as he was before. This still is one of our favorite Korean spots in NJ, I am sure we will return for more in the future!
