Pickle Jar Kitchen #2

When we first visited Pickle Jar Kitchen a few years ago, we became big fans. We have been wanting to go back, but haven’t had the chance…until now! It was good too see they are still popular with the locals, and open during most of the Winter months. Although, they do close for a few months, so check before you go if you want to go after the holiday season.

At our last visit, we had their Fried Pickle Chips ($7). It is made with sliced house garlic dill pickles, served with house Tellicherry ranch. It was so tasty, even the non-pickle-lover (me) loved it, so we had to have it again! It was still as amazing as I remembered… Still THE best fried pickles I have ever had. Had nice crunchy texture, with perfect amount of salt and vinegar flavor that made them so addicting!

Another appetizer we had at our last visit was The House Fry, “Loaded” with scallions, chili BBQ pork, chopped bacon, and smoked cheddar sauce. This thing was so awesome, we had to do a repeat on this too… And in case you can’t tell from the photos, this item is HUGE!

The potatoes are thinly sliced, crispy and crunchy, goes great with other soft textures on this dish. The pulled pork had a nice sweetness to it, super juicy and tasty. So filling and satisfying, comforting and delectable.

We had only about the half of the Pickle Chips and the House Fry, so that we could have our main dish. We both ordered sandwiches, and I chose Pickle Jar Chicken Sammies ($9), made with crispy fried herb marinated chicken, cranberry whipped goat cheese, and fresh lettuce.

It had strong goat cheese flavor, which was nice. It had a nice combination of the acidic flavor against the sweetness of the chicken, well balanced. Sesame bun was fluffy, it added nutty flavor and nice crunchy texture. It came with house pickled veggies, which were great too. The chicken had great crunchy exterior, with juicy, moist inside. One tasty sammy!

My hubby ordered The Firehouse ($11), made with house smoked 5-chili rubbed pork shoulder, Mexi-Cali pickles, carrots, smoked gouda, BBQ sauce, served on grilled house roll. It was more sweet than anything, with a hint of spices that comes at the end. Comforting and loved the crunch from the carrots. I was expecting it to be more spicy… Regardless, it was really tasty, tangy and juicy. The size of this sandwich was much bigger than the chicken sandwich. Very satisfying!

So, did we have a successful second visit? I say yes! Our server was really nice and friendly, the food was as great as we remembered, and as great as we wanted them to be. I am so happy their standard is still very high, and the price points are still very affordable. Will be sure to return again!
