Uproot

We went to Uproot back in May of 2022. Yes, I am still trying to catch up! We needed a place for lunch, and this spot looked like a great one. We didn’t have a reservation, but since it was a weekday, it was not busy at all. They had a nice high ceiling, with lots of natural light coming in from large windows.

They had a nice big bar at the front, and the room upfront was more for the bar seating with high tables. Back of the bar is more of a “regular” dining area, with low tables. The décor was very modern, clean, with burst of bright color here and there.

My husband couldn’t resist a Moscow Mule… So he ordered their Uproot Mule ($14), made with three olives vodka, fresh squeezed lime juice, and goslings ginger beer. It was refreshing on a warm day.

For food, we decided to order a few appetizers, and one main dish to share. This way, we could taste more dishes. We ordered Buffalo Cauliflower ($14), Truffle Fries ($14), Fried Brussels Sprouts ($10), and Thai Noodles ($35).

Buffalo Cauliflower is made with fried cauliflower, maker’s mark bourbon, blue cheese crumbs, chive. Cauliflower pieces were cooked just right, with perfect spiciness. Still a bit crisp so not too soft nor mushy. The truffle fries were great! The sauce that came with it was green, maybe pesto? Whatever it was, it was really Nice!

Fried Brussels Sprouts was made with walnuts, cherry glaze, and parmesan. Brussels sprouts had the perfect texture, not too hard nor soft. Loved the charred parts! Flavorful yet light. It had a nice kick to it, yet also had a subtle sweetness too, which balanced well. Thai Noodles were made with marinated shrimp and pork belly, bell pepper, pineapple, shiitake mushroom, scallions, crispy shallots, micro cilantro, and spicy soy sauce. The noodle were overcooked, but packed flavor with a tiny kick to it. Bell pepper were crisp, pork was juicy, and shrimp was plump. Sweetness of pineapple added extra flavor. This dish was the least favorite, it was just a-ok.

Since we had a nice lunch, we had to get dessert and coffee! We ordered Cappuccino ($6), which came in a cute cup. It was nice and foamy! Nice cup of coffee. For dessert, we ordered Uproot’s Famous Doughnuts ($14).

These doughnuts are served with mocha pot de creme, and warm salted caramel. They only have limited amount of these, and they are made daily. We just had to get them and see what makes them so famous. The doughnuts came out hot with hot caramel, so amazing! The doughnuts were soft and doughy yet light. We had to dip the doughnuts in the salted caramel before we had the pot de creme hiding underneath… The caramel was so creamy and velvety! Salted caramel brought out the sweetness, perfect balance. It was not too sweet. Excellent dessert!

Their bathroom is in the “regular” dining area, just look for a red sign and a red door. They have a few gender-neutral bathrooms, and they are VERY red. You won’t miss it for sure.

The bathrooms are accessible. Large but dimmed. Side table to put your personal belongings, which is always helpful.

The staffs were friendly, and service was good and efficient. Our water was always filled. We were happy with our visit. If we were back in the area again, we would definitely go back again for more!
