Maison Pickle #3

Since our very first visit at Maison Pickle, it has become our instant favorite. We did go back the second time to see if it all just a delicious dream, and they proved to us that they are indeed real! So, it was only fitting that we made time to dine here right before NYC shut down… So, yes, if you haven’t guessed it already, this is from early March… A bit late posting, but hey, better late than never, right? With everyone talking about this virus and shutdown, the restaurant was not busy on Monday. They also had removed half of the tables already during this time, we actually enjoyed having more space!

Since we knew this was the last time we could dine here at Maison Pickle for who knows how long (at that time), we decided to order a bit more than we planned… And with their menu being so enticing, it is so easy to do! We already knew we will be taking some home with us, so, why not???

One of (many) favorite items we have here at Maison Pickle is their pull apart bread. We tried one of their pull apart bread, and we were in love! This time, we decided to try a simpler version, Pull Apart Honey and Butter ($13). And let me tell you, it was heavenly! The best of the best! Sooo fluffy, buttery, with amazing honey flavor. I could seriously have this huge thing all to myself…everyday… My hubby said it is so good, it should be illegal! If it was allowed by law, I would marry this baby! The portion is huge, enough to share among four people or more.

One of (many) weakness when it comes to food is fries… Especially truffle fries or any kind of fancy fries. And of course, they have fancy fries here at Maison Pickle! We ordered Gruyere Fondue with Bacon Fries ($14). I mean, we only live once, right??? The fries came in a seriously HUGE bowl. I mean, ginormous!!! Again, good to share among four or more people. The gooey cheese fondue was not only on the top, but also on the bottom too. Not as much bacon bits, but still added a nice flavor. It was not greasy, crispy without being too tough, soft without being mushy, just perfect! And yes, totally addicting…

For main dish, we decided to go for their specialty, French Dip. We already knew how generous they are with portion size, we ordered one French Dip to share, as we did before. We ordered Deluxe French Dip ($24) again. It is made with Sirloin of Beef, Fried Onions, Caramelized Onions, and Gruyere Fondue on house baked French bread with pan-scraped jus, and big dill pickle.

It could be risky to order the same dish again, because the second time might not be as good as the first time. But in this case, it was as amazing was it was the first time! They again split the one order into two plates, so it is easier for us to eat (thank you!). With the first bite, we were taken back to the previous visit when we tried this French Dip, when we were sent to food heaven. Crunchy onions, tender beef, delightful jus… It can’t get any better than this!

As amazing as their food menu is, we were actually going there for something else… Their famous 24-layer cake! You can’t go to Maison Pickle and not have their cake! Since it was March, they had a special version of 24-layer cake in green. We knew we wanted to try that, regardless of flavor. So, we asked for the “green” 24-layer cake, and coffee with milk to go with it.

Now, they usually have a 24-Layer Chocolate Cake, a 24-Layer Confetti Cake, plus a special 24-layer cake, like the 24-Layer Pink Champagne Cake. In the month of March, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, they had a green version!

I thought it was some kind of pistachio flavored cake, but the server told us that it is a 24-Layer Mint Chocolate Cake ($14). And it was delicious! Well, I had no doubt it will be, but it was still surprisingly tasty! Very minty without being overpowering, which was great. Moist and velvety, each bite was heavenly! Chocolate mint crumbles on top was great too!

Their bathroom is nearby their kitchen, several steps up. Just look for a boxer with a huge pickle! They have several bathrooms, and the one I used was pretty good size. Rare for restaurants in Manhattan… It was clean, bright, and shiny!

We had another magnificent dining experience here at Maison Pickle, and it was fitting that this was our last restaurant meal before the shutdown. Everything we had was very memorable, as all the other dishes we tried from here before. They never disappoint. They are still open for business (thank goodness!) if you want to try their fabulous food and dessert, just make sure your stomach is ready for loads of food!
