Abiko Curry – NJ

We first visited Abiko Curry in Manhattan a few years ago, and we loved their food! When we found out that they have a location in NJ, we decided to go for a visit. They had a couple of parking spot alongside the building, and a few more spots in the back.

The inside was much bigger than that of Manhattan location, which was expected. Very spacious and bright with large windows. The menu and signage here were mostly Korean centric here, I assume their customers are mostly all Korean customers.

There were few similarities with the Manhattan location, such as the collection of toys and action figures. They also had kind of a “secret” drawer on the side of each table, holding utensils and napkins.

The menu items seemed bigger than the New York location, unless they simply expanded since we last visited? Regardless, I remembered how fantastic their cheese cutlet curry was, so I could not resist ordering somewhat similar item. I went with Vegetable Curry Rice ($9.99) with Chicken Cutlet ($4.99) and Melting Cheese ($1.99). When you start getting more add-ons, it can get a bit pricey. My curry ended up being $16.97 before tax. The portion is quite large though, and it comes with a soup and a side of kimchi vegetable.

We learned not to order “Level 2” spiciness at Abiko Curry, so we went with Level 1. It was still spicy! But not too spicy, so that was good. Vegetable curry had mushroom, potato, carrots, and onions. Love the crispy garlic chips. And again, the cheese…oh, how awesome the cheese is here… Completely amazing cheese porn… Love it! You can see the reason why I had to get the cheese again…

My hubby went with a different choice with his order. He ordered Mushroom Curry ($11.99) with Croquette ($2.99), Fried Shrimp ($4.99), and Melting Cheese ($1.99). Unless you are getting some kind of cutlet, the cheese needs to be atop the curry, due to the way they make them. And again, with more add-on, the more expensive a dish can become. This one came out to be $21.96! Croquette is lightly fried, super crispy on outside with fluffy potato filling inside. Almost creamy. Shrimp was super plump! Lightly battered and fried also, very nice!

They had bathroom in the back, and sadly, it was not very clean. The trash can was almost overflowing with paper towels. It made me think that the bathroom hasn’t been cleaned since the day before, as we were there shortly after they opened for the day. And there were only handful of customers who dined in while we were there.

Aside from the cleanliness of the bathroom, we had a nice brunch there. The food was as good as we wanted them to be, and super filling. We had to take some home with us, as we could not finish them all. I am glad to see they are doing well, for them to have another location. I would like to try some other dishes that they offer the next time we visit!
