Butler

When we ventured out to DUMBO one early Saturday morning, we found ourselves looking for a nice spot for breakfast/brunch nearby. After doing some research, we found Butler with tasty looking menu. They have more than one locations, and one of them were very close by. So we walked over to check them out. We saw a long line of people around the building, which was surprising at around 8:30 in the morning! But then, the inside looked more than half empty. Then, I learned that the people in the queue were waiting for “to-go” orders. Phew! We walked in, did the normal COVID checks such as temperature reading, and took our seat at the corner. Inside the Butler was very spacious, relaxing, with plenty of seating, especially for a “café”.

We knew we wanted some baked goods, and some real food. When we walked up to see their baked goods and other menu offerings, and found ourselves difficult to select just a few items… They all looked amazing! They had great selection of baked goods, all looking like some kind of gastronomic artwork.

It seemed like they haven’t had the time to place the names of the items up front, so I had to guess what they are. The ones I was interested in, but didn’t know exactly what they were, I asked the staff. The staffs here were very friendly and welcoming, didn’t make me feel bad about taking the time to ask question about their delicious looking jewels.

My hubby put me in charge of selecting the baked goods. If I had all the money and extra, extra stomach, I would have ordered one of everything. But since we don’t have neither, I chose just three… I ordered Chocolate Croissant ($4.50), Morning Glory Muffin ($5), and Olive Oil Muffin ($4.50).

For the “real food” part of the breakfast, we ordered Breakfast Sandwich ($11). If you read my other blogs, you are already aware of my not-so-secret love affair with breakfast sandwich, so this should not be a surprise… I am still thinking about the one from Maman, with homemade bacon bourbon jam… YUM!

And the breakfast/brunch is not complete without a nice cup of coffee! We both ordered Flat White ($4.50). Look at this perfectly made cup of flat white… It was super smooth with great flavor. I love the Flat White from Laughing Man Coffee & Tea, but Butler does Flat White really great too!

Ok, let’s dig in! Their Breakfast Sandwich ($11) is made with house made scallion brioche, a sunny egg, hand cut smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and truffle aioli. Doesn’t that just sound amazing? The Breakfast Sandwich at Butler sounds fancy, but yet it is simple, and simple done right. It had the perfect sunny side egg, juicy bacon, soft and fluffy buns… We really enjoyed it! The side of arugula was super fresh, a bit bitter, accompanied by one cherry tomato.

Now, the baked goods. Let’s start with Morning Glory Muffin ($5). It is made with carrot, coconut, pineapple, and passionfruit. It is like a glorified carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I think all carrot cake should be like this… It had a good amount of spice in there, and noticeable coconut shavings. Not overly sweet, but elegantly sweet. Very moist, soft, and each bite was delightful!

Next up, Olive Oil Muffin ($4.5). It is made with candied grapefruit, grapefruit glaze, and rosemary. This little guy was packed with goodness! It was SUPER moist, with nice sweetness to it, which was balanced out with some acidic lemon glaze. For it is rich and decadent, the size was perfect for this particular muffin. Loved it!

Last but not least… Triple Chocolate Croissant ($4.50)! It had chocolate in the inside, topped with chocolate glaze AND chocolate pearls. I love that little crunchy chocolate pearls! They give a nice little pop to the regular chocolate croissant. The croissant was buttery and flakey, really great!

They have one bathroom near the back. With the size of this café, there can be a line for the bathroom.

The bathroom is spacious, clean, and well-lit. It had a changing table for babies.

We had one amazing breakfast/brunch here at Butler. Everything was just delicious and delightful. Staffs were friendly and courteous. We felt welcomed there. With elegant, open space with relaxing music playing at low volume, you are sure to have a peaceful time here. And the food! My goodness, we enjoyed every bite! We will definitely go back for more the next time we are in Brooklyn!
