Mr. Sun

There are so many photo-worthy food out there, and I get enticed by them frequently… Some of them only looks good, and the quality/flavor could be sacrificed. But then again, sometimes, you get something that looks amazing and taste great too. Ever since I first saw adorable steamed buns several years ago, I have been wanting to try some… and I finally decided to get them at Mr. Sun!

We went during an off hour, so the inside was empty. There were few customers coming to pick up their to-go orders. They had a nice counter seats near the entrance, and tables opposite from the counter along the wall. At the back, they had a larger room with more tables there.

We sat at one of these tables. The table setting was nice and simple, with a bit of elegance to it. The chair was very comfortable. At the back, they had a larger room with more tables there.

We love Dim Sum, and we have tried different spots throughout the city, like 3 Times, Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao, Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao, Jing Fong and Golden Unicorn. It is such a fun way to try several different dishes, especially if you are with a group of people. We arrived at Mr. Sun hungry, so we were ready to get several different Dim Sum dishes. We started with Pork Soup Dumplings ($9).

The wrapping was nice and think, but not too thin. A bit chewy like mochi in a good way. Packed with flavor, with tasty soup and juicy meat. The size was good too, bigger than I thought. Very satisfying!

Then, we ordered something that made us curious. Edamame Dumplings with Black Truffle Sauce ($12).

The filling was almost like puréed, smooth and soft. I could definitely taste the truffle, but it didn’t have a distinctive flavor. I preferred this one with a drop or two of soy sauce for added flavor. Loved the mochi-y wrapping.

We always like to add a rice dish or a noodle dish. This time, we went with Fried Rice with Shredded Duck ($18). Fried rice was great cooked just right. It had a really nice flavor, and not greasy. It came with a good amount of duck meat. Nice salty flavor without being too salty. Good amount to share with others.

Then, the item we came to Mr. Sun for… The Pig Custard Buns ($9)!!! Look how adorable they are! How can you resist these cute, bouncy, fluffy faces? I know I couldn’t…

They were super plump and fluffy, and the custard filling was creamy without runny, but almost whipped. It was not too sweet which was nice.

When I thought we were done, my hubby wanted a couple more dish… He was REALLY hungry! LOL. So, we added a couple of more Dim Sum dishes. We got Steamed Honey BBQ Pork Buns ($8). The BBQ flavor was sweet and tangy. This one was more like a steamed bread with some meat filling. It can fill you up faster than some other Dim Sum items. This one comes in three, but they are large in size.

The last one was Soup Dumpling with Crab Meat ($11). It was distinctively different from the pork flavor. With seafood broth (I believe), it gives you a bold seafood flavor which we enjoyed. Nice amount of crabmeat in the filling. The orange stuff on the top had a strong seafood flavor, not sure what it was, possibly more crabmeat? It was a bit on the salty side, but not too salty.

Their bathroom is in the back, between the two large dining rooms. Look for a narrow staircase going down. Be careful with the staffs coming up the stairs with food! They had a couple of gender-neutral bathroom down the stairs.

Inside the bathroom was nice and clean, well-lit and spacious enough.

We had a nice Dim Sum lunch here at Mr. Sun. The orders came out fast too. Most of the dishes were so flavorful that you don’t need soy sauce or any additional condiment. I also liked that they served water infused with lemon. Super refreshing! The service was friendly and efficient, our water glasses were always filled. It was a fun and tasty experience. I am so happy I finally got to have the piggy buns!
