Petite Boucherie

I am a fan of Boucherie, and visited both Boucherie locations at West Village and Union Square. We had great experience and amazing food from both places. When they added another location named Petite Boucherie, we were more than excited to go try this location.

As the name of the restaurant implied, the inside was quite small, especially comparing to Boucherie and Boucherie Park. It had little over 30 seating, plus bar seating. Might not be suitable for a large group, but perfect for an intimate gathering with your family and loved ones. Get a friend or two that you need to catch up on life with, and head over here! We arrived shortly after they opened for the evening, so it was nice and quiet.

Within the small space, they had a full bar, whipping up some tasty cocktails. We got to talk with the manager, and he told us that they changed the décor here to match that of the other Boucherie locations when they became Petite Boucherie. Very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Since it is sitting on a corner lot, and with huge windows from floor to ceiling, it was nice and bright until sun set.

Start off, we ordered a couple of cocktails: Wildflower ($17) and Bastile Sour ($17). My hubby and I both like cocktails with egg white on top, so we got cocktails with egg whites.

Wildflower ($17) is made with Absinthe, Gin, Watermelon Juice, Lavender Syrup, Lemon & Egg White. It had subtle watermelon flavor that was more elegant than anything else. It was followed by a nice lavender flavor without being too herb-y. Strong drink, I could really taste the absinthe! Egg white was creamy and velvety, balancing out everything. Really nice cocktail!

Bastille Sour ($17) is made with Bastille 1789, Bruto Americano, Sherry, Orgeat, Lemon & Egg White. It had an interesting flavor… It was very refreshing with subtle lemon flavor. Not really “sour” as I imagined, but could taste the really wonderful sherry. Nice and strong!

We received complimentary breads with olives, the bread slices were moist and dense, nice texture.

For appetizer, I ordered Camembert Roti ($25). It comes with a roasted camembert cheese, candied walnuts, and toasted bread. I should have guessed from the price point of this item, but it was so much more than I imagined it would be…which was great.

Now, ask yourself, do you love cheese? Do you dream about bathing in a melty, velvety, rich pool of hot cheese? Then this dish might be your soulmate. Cheese lovers’ dream! So amazing, high quality, and just melt your heart… If you want to feel like a warm spring on a cold day, or if you just want to get some awesome gooey cheese, come and get some! It comes in a super hot iron pan (don’t touch it!) to keep it melty. Walnuts add nice texture and sweetness to it.

My hubby ordered the staple, Soupe À L’oignon Au Fromage ($15), a classic French onion soup. It was a thing of beautify, with the golden cheese on top, holding in all the liquid goodness down below.

It was a good size, not too small, and very filling with a nice thick bread pieces. It also had loads of onions, and yes, nice gooey cheese that goes and goes and goes… A bit on a salty side, but very flavorful.

At this point, we were ready for another drink. Our awesome server, Sophie recommended Bordeaux based on our main dishes, so we went with that. It was Saint-Emilion, Cheval Noir from France 2016. So rich, full body, great with steak dishes. Pleasant aroma with beautiful burgundy color.

For main, I ordered Wagyu Truffle Burger ($44), made with Kow wagyu blend, truffle dijonnaise, caramelized onions, aged gruyere & shaved black truffle. The burger was much bigger than I expected, and it looked so wonderful…

These amazing burgers are the reason why I could never stop my love and obsession for burgers… This burger came with real, full truffle shavings that were substantial!!! The aroma of truffle was amazing, from the moment it arrived, I was gently embraced by it. The burger had super fluffy buns, thick patty that was hugged by melty cheese, ripe tomato and crispy lettuce. Sauce was amazing too. What more can you ask for? I totally LOVED it!!! Jus coming out as you cut/eat the burger… Sooooo amazing! Prepare to get your hands messy! It is totally worth it!

The burger came with baby pickles and fries. Great accompaniments to the burger. Fries were not greasy, and had wonderful aroma and flavor of the truffle. Crunchy exterior but not too crunchy, soft and potato-y inside. Addicting! Pickles served as a nice palette cleanser for a rich burger.

My hubby went with Steak Frites Beurre Maître d’hôtel ($47), New York Strip, French fries and herb butter.

I like Beurre Maître d’hôtel, which is a savory French butter that is prepared with butter, parsley, lemon juice, salt and pepper. It went really great with the steak, adding so much flavor and depth to the steak. The steak itself was really nice, almost crunchy and crispy on the outside, cooked a bit more than med rare that we requested, which was a bit sad… But, it was still tasty.

For dessert, we had Crème Brûlée ($12). It was very creamy and velvety, classic done right! Sugar on top is not too thick, just right. Nice and crunchy texture. A nice way to end the amazing dinner.

We also had Cappuccino ($5.50) to go with our dessert. I could taste real coffee here. Strong, bold and yet comforting. Nice cup of cappuccino.

They have a bathroom all the way in the back. Just one uni-sex bathroom, and quite small. They utilized the small space well with the tiny sink that does a good job. The design in the bathroom made me think of Pierrot or pantomime though…

We had a wonderful dinner, Boucherie never disappoint! Our server, Sophie was super friendly and helpful, took a great care of us. She was so lovely! The manager Michael was really nice too, we enjoyed talking to him. We felt totally welcomed. It was a really relaxing dinner with delicious food, love to return again for more!
