Phillips Seafood

When you travel a lot for business, the challenge for looking for a good food at airports become harder and harder… On my early flight out of Newark airport, I decided to find an actual restaurant that is open early, instead of resulting to a fast food place. I decided to try Phillips Seafood since they were open, and offer breakfast menu.

It was nice and bright with the walls covered with large windows. Based on where you sit, you get a nice view of the runway. No one was at the entrance when I walked in, and after waited for few minutes, I decided just to take a seat myself. I wanted to have the view, so I took a seat by the window. After a few min, a staff came to take an order.

I started with Orange Juice ($2.99). It was just a plain orange juice, with no pulp. Good size though, filled to the rim. Not as large as the water glass, but it was a good amount to have for breakfast.

For food, I chose Phillips Premium Crab Cake & Egg with Cheddar ($18.99). It comes with Phillips’ premium lump crab cake, eggs your way, cheddar, potatoes & Texas toast. When the waiter came to take my order, I felt so rushed… He took my entire order in just a few seconds, speaking super fast. As he was taking my order, he quickly said “scrambled?” and walked away. Under such pressure, all I could do was nod. So, I got my eggs scrambled instead of actually choosing how I wanted the eggs. The food came out in about 15 min with a side of jelly and butter.

It had two pieces of toasts, steak fries, lots of eggs with cheese on top, and a nice size crab cake. Toast was lightly toasted, soft and fluffy. Potatoes were thick and potato-y. The eggs were cooked more than I prefer, as I like them a little bit runny. But then again, it is safe to cook them thoroughly at airport, you never know how fresh the eggs are. The cheddar cheese was a bit hardened on top, not smooth and melt-y as I wanted them to be.

Crab cake surprised me, in a good way, It was a real deal crab cake, packed with lots of REAL crab meat. Nice amount of seasoning, didn’t need any extra seasoning or sauce. Pretty darn good. Meaty and juicy, I did enjoy this.

The entire time I was eating, my server did come to check on me, so it was a challenge to get a glass of water. It was not that busy in this restaurant early in the morning, so I am not sure the reason why the server was in such rush, or why he disappeared for a while. He was polite, just not easy to get his attention. The food was ok, not the best, but again, the crab cake was pretty good. The portion was huge, I was stuffed after the meal. My search for great food at an airport continues… Having a good meal before a long flight is important, so please let’s get some healthy and tasty eateries placed in all airports!
