The Mayfair Chippy

While I was in London, there were a few dishes I really wanted to have, and one of them was Fish & Chips. After looking through numerous of fish and chips places, I decided to visit this spot.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in with a warm smile. Since we had a reservation, we had no issue getting a table, even though we got there way earlier than our reservation time. The inside was narrow and long, bright and inviting. I really liked the black and white tiles, mixing the old-fashion look with a modern interior.

Although they offer other dishes, we were there strictly for fish and chips. This was supposed to be a light dinner, so my hubby decided to share a dish. Our friend went with Fried Cod Fish (£11.25) and Chips (£3.75). It looked pretty good, large fillet of fish, and I think she enjoyed it very much.

For us, we decided to go all out with our fish and chips… We ordered Mayfair Classic (£17.25), that comes with Fried Cod or Haddock, Mushy Peas, Tartar, and Chip Shop Curry Sauce or HP Gravy. We went with Cod and Curry Sauce.

I loved the little copper pots that were holding all the sides, so cute! The tartar sauce is usually my go-to with fried fish, and they were really good. A bit “meaty” with chunky texture, very fresh and tasty. I haven’t been a big fan of mushy peas or curry sauce that comes with fish and chips, but I must say, their peas and curry were pretty good! The curry sauce was not spicy, but had just a little kick to it.

The cod was resting atop a bed of chips. The chips were fat and soft, very potato-y. Great! And the cod…it was AMAZING!!!!! Super fluffy and juicy, with super crispy exterior. One of the best fish & chips I’ve ever had! The size was great too, it was really big, enough to share among two, even though you really don’t want to, because it is so delicious!

The bathroom is all the way back, and down the stairs. The same decor with black and white tiles, with crisp and clean while walls extend to the downstairs. They have a kitchen downstairs, and they had a really cool mini-elevator by the hostess bar counter that were used to send dirty dishes down.

The bathroom was cool too, with all sorts of newspaper articles about fish & chips. The toilet had that old-fashion look that matched the decor. Small but clean and well-lit.

We had a great dinner here. The staff were all really nice, funny, friendly, and accommodating. I am so glad we got to try their fish & chips, it was so amazing and delicious! I would love to go back for more the next time we are in London!
