The Right Fork Diner

During our day-trip to Martha’s Vineyard, we were interested in visiting this particular diner, sitting right by the Katama Airfield. They had a parking lot, but with their popularity, the cars were parked all way out to the street. We were there with our bikes, so we didn’t need to worry. They had bike parking right by the diner.

The coolest part of this diner is the view of the airfield. It was sooo cool to be able to see the planes up close and personal! They do provide some tours from up in the sky, we saw a few of these planes fly by when we were hanging out the Katama Beach nearby.

They don’t take reservation, and it is a rather popular spot. Once you put your name down on the wait list, you get the notification on your phone with an app. While we waited, we went to the back for more view of the airfield. They had a couple of games there, such as corn hole.

Once we received the notification on our phone that our table is ready, we went to the front. The front door was very cute with a fork as door knob. To the left of the main door was a window for order/pick up for ice cream to go. The inside was much smaller than I thought it would be, cute and cozy.

The outdoor seating felt bigger than the inside, but since it was a hot day, we wanted to sit inside. When you put your name down on the waiting list, there are few options; inside, outside, or “rail” seating, which is a counter table seating outside.

We started off with a Coffee ($3) with milk. The milk came in a cute little container.

Their breakfast menu was large and with nice variety of dishes. The service was slow and not attentive, it took time to do everything here… Once we finally got the server to take our order, we went with Lobster Benedict ($25) to share. We were not that hungry, and it is rather pricey for a breakfast item.

This Lobster Benedict comes with buttery lobster, spinach, tomato, and hollandaise. It has choice of English muffin, cheesy polenta cake, or portobello mushroom! Even has gluten free toast option for additional cost. Pretty cool! It also comes with a choice of mixed greens or home fries. We chose Cheesy Polenta Cake, and Home Fries. You can see the polenta cakes better in these photos. Our server brought an extra plate without us asking for it, which was about the only nice think she ever did during our visit.

The eggs were poached a bit too long, which was a bit disappointing.

The polenta cake was firm yet bouncy, with nice cheesy flavor. It had a generous amount of lobster meat, which was great! Hollandaise sauce had a nice flavor, creamy yet not too thick nor too thin. The tomato slice added refreshing flavor to this dish. It was super filling with polenta cake. Home fries were really good too, not too heavy, really good seasoning.

Bathrooms are located outside, around the corner from the outdoor seating patio. They had two doors with no sign on the door, but they are two gender-neutral bathrooms. It was nice and clean, roomy and well-lit.

We enjoyed the food, but you know what can ruin a good meal? Horrible service. And unfortunately, that is what we received. Our server acted as if she didn’t care if we were there, or maybe she just wanted us to leave? I hear some people say Martha’s Vineyard can be a not-so-friendly-island for non-white customers. I don’t want to believe this kind of negative comments, but when we get treated differently, and looking around and seeing I am the only non-white customer there, it does make me wonder…

One interesting (putting it nicely) thing was when my hubby asked for a refill of water, she came and refilled ONLY his glass and walked away. We had to ask for my glass to get a refill once we got her attention… Then, she brought a check without asking if we wanted anything else. Oh well, we were ready to get out of this un-welcoming place anyways.

Would we return? Maybe to try some other dishes, but with low or no expectation of receiving any kind of warm service.
