Tilikum Place Café

We found this spot with a raving review and tasty looking food, we decided to check it out. It was It had simple exterior with the front wall covered with large windows. We could see the inside really well from the outside, and it looked pretty busy.

And busy it was…seems like a super popular spot. They have a bar at the entrance, nice, fully stacked bar. They had an orange juice maker at the front, the kind that I have seen years and years ago when I traveled to Europe.

The dining area was pretty packed, and all the empty tables were all reserved already. We didn’t have a reservation, but luckily for us, they had a few seats left at the bar counter. Anyone else who came after us without reservation couldn’t get a table for hours. Yup, they are that popular!

We were very interested in their Dutch Baby dishes, and we saw one table getting some kind of sweet Dutch Baby with blueberry in it. We decided we will get that for dessert. For the main, we went with Baked Eggs ($12), made with red pepper, zucchini, onion, eggplant, roast garlic-tomato cream, bread crumbs. Our server told us that our order of Baked Eggs and Dutch Baby both will take a while. We were ok with that. The server also asked if we wanted them out at the same time, or the savory one first and then the sweet one. We asked for the savory one first.

Baked Eggs came in the cast iron skillet not big but not too small, and it was piping hot! It had loads of fresh veggies, all nicely cut up. It was cooked to perfection, with the golden crust on top. The veggies were firm but not too hard, just the right texture. The garlic-tomato cream was amazing and brought all the flavors of the different veggies together into one happy family. The crumbs on top was so good, crunchy and crispy. We really enjoyed it!

When we were almost done with the savory one, the sweet Dutch Baby came out. Their timing was incredible! We ordered Sweet Dutch Baby ($12), made with blueberry, lemon and ricotta. It came with a side of syrup. The sweet aroma was sensational!

It came in the iron skillet that was the same size as the Baked Egg. So, not large but not too small. Quite different from the Dutch Baby pancakes that we had at Elmer’s in Palm Springs, CA (you can read about it here: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/elmers-restaurant/ ) We drizzled some syrup over it and sliced them like a pie.

It was still steaming hot, fresh out of the oven. It was fluffy and creamy at the same time. The baked custard was almost jiggly with its fluffiness, so awesome!!! Blueberries were fresh, ripe and sweet. The pancake was dense yet light and airy, sweet but not overly sweet. It was delicious!

They have a bathroom in the back, behind this bright blue door. There are separate bathroom for men and women behind this door, and you need a separate code to get into the bathroom.

The female bathroom was a nice size, with fun orange colors. It was clean and organized.

The service here was very friendly, welcoming and polite. Even though we didn’t get to sit at a table, we received really nice service at the counter seats. The food tasted amazing, and the price was super affordable. The quality was high, with fresh ingredients and everything made with love and care. I would definitely go back again if I am back in Seattle, but with a reservation for sure!
