Boston Burger Company

One of my favorite American comfort food is Burger & Fries. And nowadays, the “burger” has become so much more than just patty and buns. While in Boston, I found a spot that specializes in all sorts of creative burgers.

We went during the off-peak hours, but they still had a short wait. They had a good amount of seating, but it was not enough for their popularity. There was a small waiting area at the entrance with a few seats. The inside was long and narrow, with bright red walls. The tables towards the front were high tables, and the back half of the space had regular low tables.

The front wall had large windows, bringing in natural light. But since that is the only window in this long, narrow space, they need loads of light fixtures. They have a bar to the right of the entrance, fully stacked.

When we finally got our table, we already knew we wanted a burger and a shake. They seem to have some awesome looking shakes here, on top of breag burgers! They were called “Freakfrappes” and they all looked super tasty! We decided to go with Strawberry Shortcake ($11). It is made with vanilla ice cream, strawberry jam, strawberries, shortcake. When it arrived to our table, we were speechless for a second. It was MASSIVE! Like a tower of Strawberry Shortcake. Good thing we were sharing…

In order to get to the shake, and also to taste the shortcake, we had to deconstruct this Freakfrappe. We removed the cake with mountain of whipped cream on the plate. It was more of  thick pound cake sandwich with whipped strawberry jam in between. It also had some real strawberry slices in it too. The shake itself was super tasty! It had several strawberry pieces on the bottom, which was nice tough. But, at the same time, it made it a bit harder too drink… Overall, we were VERY happy with our Freakfrappe!

For food, we decided to get a side of their specialty fries with the burger, since the burger comes with chips, and you can’t substitute it with anything else. Out of all the interesting options, we ordered Bruschetta Fries ($10.50). It is made with parmesan, tomatoes, basil, garlic, pesto mayo drizzle. Now, I am thinking, this is a “side order of fries.” But in reality, it could have been a main dish! It was HUGE! And even more so, it was DELICIOUS!!! Very unique, I never had fries like this before. Nice and potato-y, soft in the inside, with real bruschetta flavor. Fresh tomato and other ingredients, great Parmesan flavor too. Amazing and addictive, it was love at first bite!

Then the burger. They had somewhere around 30 different offerings of burgers! Not that’s a burger company! We went with Killer Bee ($15), made with bacon, a stack of beer-battered onion rings, honey bbq sauce, and American cheese. Our server asked us if we were going to share the burger, and we said yes. With that, the burger came pre-cut in half. Very nice service and kind consideration, but I wish if they didn’t do that… I was looking forward to how this burger was going to “look.” It was supposed to have this beehive look with the stacked onion rings, but they got smashed when they got cut in half… Oh well…

So, just imagine these onion rings standing tall, breaking a nice beehive shape… All of their burgers come with their homemade chips, and once again, no substitutions. It also comes with a choice of baked beans of coleslaw. We went with the baked beans, and it was quite tasty!

The burger itself was big, but not humongous. It had a nice sweet bbq flavor. Thick patty that was juicy with melty cheese cuddling the patty. Even thought it was squished a bit, it was still very tasty. The buns were really good too. We enjoyed this burger a lot!

They had two uni-sex bathrooms all the way to the back. The one I used was super roomy with bright red interior. Nothing fancy in there but clean and organized.

The food portion was so huge, we couldn’t finish. We enjoyed everything immensely though. Our server Katherine was great, super friendly and welcoming. She was helpful with the large menu too. She took a really good care of us. We had a nice dinner here, with super tasty comfort food, exactly what I wanted! I would love to go back again and try some other Freakfrappe and burgers, and yes, fries!!! Yum!
