Cape Cod Winery 2018

We visited Cape Cod Winery in 2016, when they were just starting out (you can read about it here: http://www.foodlovergirl.com/cape-cod-winery/ ). We had a really good experience at that time, we decided to go back and see how their business has expanded.

They have a cute little Cape Cod house still on the premises, that was where we had the tasting in the past. That was quite interesting, like having a wine tasting at someone’s home. But I believe that house is now a real residential house for the winery owners? They had a sign for the tasting right outside under the Sunbrella.

They had this gigantic tent outdoor by the house, with lots of tables and chairs. This is the new tasting spot, which can accommodate a good number of people, rain or shine.

We got there not so long after they opened up for the day, so it was quiet for a while. But then, more people kept coming in…I think their business is going well, which was great to see!

They had a few more seating, not under tent. It was such a hot and humid day on this day, so everyone went under the tent to escape from the scorching sun. But on a really nice Spring or Fall day, these colorful seats will be fun. I think they have a fire pit in the middle, so that makes sense.

The basic tasting has not changed since two years ago, including the price. The tasting is $10 per person, and you get to keep the wine glass that you used for your tasting. This also means that they don’t change the wine glass during your tasting, so there will be a bit of mixture in your glass as you taste more wines. The staff came over with some oyster crackers and explained how the tasting is done here. With their tasting, you get 5 pre-selected wine tastings and one of your choice from the rest of the wine offerings that they have.

The first in the line of tasting was their Pinot Grigio, with apppealing flavor of apple & pear, and clean, refreshing aroma. Just as it was described, it was really nice, especially for someone like me who likes sweeter wines. Their wines are more on the sweet side with fruit notes, compared other wines out there.

The second one was Rosé Mermaid Water, which is a dry Rosé, filled with fresh strawberry and raspberry aromas. Indicated as the perfect wine for an afternoon on a pouch. I really liked the name of it, to begin with. It really sets the mood for this wine, doesn’t it? It had lovely rose pink color, and yes, it is on the sweet side even thought it is a dry Rosé.

The third one they brought to us was their Chardonnay, rich with flavors of toasted oak, vanilla and butter. It was kind of interesting to go between white, rosé, and then back to white wine… This one was good too, refreshing and yet rich, I thought it will be a good table wine, that can be paired with all sorts of dishes.

Then, there came the red wine! Their Reel Red is a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon & zinfandel grapes. It has notes of cherry, raspberry and spice with a smooth finish. It is rich yet but doesn’t feel heavy, but rather light body. It liked this red since it was nice and fruity, light and smooth.

The last pre-selected wine was Nantucket Sound Sangiovese, which is aged in American oak, with fruit and spice flavors. It is more earthy and great for relaxing evening over delicious food kind of wine to me.

For the last one, we got to choose between Cranberry Blush or Blueberry wine. The last time we were here, they were completely out of their blueberry wine, so we chose Blueberry wine so that we can finally taste it! It is a unique blend of their semi-dry white wine and blueberry fruit wine. This one was awesome, we really love it! I am glad we finally got to try their blueberry wine!

After the tasting, we decided to get a few bottles to take home with us. In the shed next to the house is their store, where you can buy more than just their wines. They have all sorts of wine-related items, like colorful and fun wine bottle holder that looks like a lobster trap, bottle openers, bottle carrier, etc., etc…

They also had cute wine bags with funny sayings on it, as well as clothes like t-shirts, sweat shirts, and hats. They had nautical-theme bottle stoppers as well, they were really cute!

Then the wines, they had a good amount of wine inventories, so we didn’t have to worry about not getting what we wanted to buy. The price for each one varies a bit, anywhere from $14.99 to $20.99 a bottle. If you purchase three or more bottles, you get 5% off. If you purchase six or more, you get 10% off. And if you buy a case of 12 bottles, you get 10% off, plus one bottle for free. Yes they do baker’s dozen, which is so nice!

They have grapes growing at their backyard, but it will be another 2 years or so before they can produce grapes for their wines. For now, they are getting grapes from local farms and California. It will be great to visit them again in a couple of years, when they start making their wines with their own grapes!

The staffs here were mainly young girls, maybe it is their Summer job while the school is out? They were all very nice and friendly, informative and welcoming. From what I heard, it gets super busy during the weekend. So, it is better to get there early, before the rush. We also got to speak with the owner, Erica. She was as nice and sweet as we remembered from our last visit a couple of years ago. I said that their winery has become “fancy” since two years ago, and she laughed and said that they are never gonna be fancy! LOL. I am so happy to see this adorable winery thriving and doing well. We will continue to check on this place and get more of their tasty wines!
