Sugar Hill Creamery

It is getting hot in the City! Well, it is still not that bad, but soon, it will be 90-something-degree everyday… On those days (or any day, really), the perfect little pick-me-up is hands down ice cream in my opinion! There are hundreds of ice cream spots in NYC, like Taiyaki NYC and Tipsy Scoop, but I recently discovered one that offers creative flavors, called Sugar Hill Creamery.

I walked by this spot on Lenox Avenue before, but didn’t think much of it at that time. When we walked in, I was surprised of the bright, clean, and their spacious interior, especially for an ice cream shop. But then, they also offer coffee and such, so they are a bit more than a regular ice cream spots out there. They also had a jug of complimentary water at the counter, which is always helpful, especially when you are having something really sweet.

They had nice seating there, with beautiful murals of smiling faces. It is almost like a little gallery! The interior had clean lines and crisp contract of colors between the white wall and the dark blue bottom. Very refreshing atmosphere.

Their flavors were very interesting and intriguing. After trying a couple of flavors, I decided to go with a Double ($7.25), with a scoop of the Fly Girl and a scoop of the Nunu’s Peach Cobbler. The Fly Girl is a Honey Lavender, and it had a such amazing, strong flavor of honey, almost caramel-y, which was great! The hint of lavender was nice too, not overly herb-y not soap-like. Just perfect! Nunu’s Peach Cobbler is Brandied Peach Crumble. Compared to Fly Girl, the Peach Cobbler didn’t have as strong of a flavor, but loved the chunks of candied peach in there. It also had some “crumble” pieces, which was fun.

My hubby also got a Double ($7.25), with a scoop of the Chairperson of the Board, and the Mrs. Robinson’s Neighborhood. Their naming of the ice creams are fun too. Chairperson of the Boars is Blueberry Cheesecake, and it tasted like cream cheese with blueberry. It had some pieces of graham cracker-type crumbs, representing the cheesecake crust. It was super rich and creamy. Mrs. Robinson’s Neighborhood is Roasted Summer Squash, Zucchini Bread, and Pickled Ginger. I thought this was very interesting, never heard of ice cream made with such flavors! I was a bit hesitant to try it, but after one bite, I was a big fan! It did not taste like any kind of “veggie” flavor, but it was simply delicious!!!

Another surprise, other than their amazing flavors, is that they have a nice bathroom! How many ice cream spot offer bathroom? Not many as far as I know. Just look for a fridge with ice cream containers that you can buy to take home with… the bathroom to the right of that.

They had one gender-neutral bathroom, very clean, roomy, and well lit.

All the flavors we tried were such a delight, I would definitely go back again to try more of their flavors!
