The Friendly Toast

The last time we were in Boston, we saw lots of people waiting outside of The Friendly Toast for brunch. We were very curious, but didn’t have time to visit at that time. Now that we are back, we made sure to try their unique and fun menu! The Friendly Toast do not take reservation, but you can join the wait list on Yelp app.

The inside was quite bright with vivid colors with loads of fun and funky décor. The furniture reminded me of old-fashion diner. So many interesting items on the wall, you can easily get lost in them.

Décor is not the only thing that they will capture your eyes. The Friendly Toast can certainly entertain you with their fun, creative, interesting menu also! I wanted to try one of their ramen dishes, as it sounded very curious… But, my luck would have it, they were out of ramen noodles on that day… What! How can anyone be out of ramen noodles??? So sad… Well, since they have gazillion of food options, it was not difficult to find something else that I wanted to try. Actually, it was indeed difficult, since so many of them sounded so good! At the end, I went with “Maaaaaaaa!!!! The Meatloaf Benny” ($14) from their special of the day menu.

It is made with a thick slice of their oatmeal toast, house meatloaf, two poached eggs, hollandaise, and a drizzle of sriracha glaze. It came with a side of home fries, and they were banging! Home fries were a tiny little spicy, nice little kick to it. Soft and potato-y, packed with flavor! Not really a big fan of home fries usually, but they were great! Meatloaf was really good too, meaty, juicy, moist, packed with flavor. Eggs were poached to perfection, with egg porn happening right in front of my eyes… It was satisfying and very filling!

My hubby went with something he enjoys: a dish that has both sweet and savory flavors. He chose King Cakes ($13.50), made with two mini banana & chocolate chip pancakes topped with bacon and finished with a peanut butter drizzle & whipped cream. There is an option to swap the bacon with turkey or veggie bacon, but it was stated on the menu that “Elvis will roll in his grave” if you went with any of those options… LOL! The pancakes were great, fluffy and moist with great flavor. It was almost “dirty” with whipped cream melting over bacon and hot pancake…and yes, those bacon strips were nice and juicy! I say tasty and food porn that is worth drooling over. Tasty!

They have a bathroom in the back, but only one bathroom. And it is for anyone, as the sign suggests, even an alien can use it if they ever come visit Earth from outer space. It was large and roomy, but expect a line of people waiting most of the time. There are more bathroom downstairs by the host/hostess station at the entrance, but it is not easy to get to with massive people waiting for their table right there…

We had a really fun brunch here at The Friendly Toast. It is not a huge restaurant, but not too small either. Their hostess and server were very friendly and courteous. The food was tasty and nice portion too. We get some bazooka gums at the end with our bill, which was extra fun. I can see the reason why they are so popular. We enjoy visiting Trident Booksellers and Café in Boston, but now we have a new favorite… I would like to go back to The Friendly Toast and try their ramen noodle dish, I hope they won’t run out of it again…
